Blue Skies and Rainbows

I woke up to this blue sky and pink clouds a few days ago. So lovely. Blue skies, nothing but blue skies, do I see!

Unless, of course, it is rainbows!

Found this pretty little fabric at Cottonweeds this weekend. They had all kinds of pretty 30s fabrics that I did not know about. This one will go in one of the border stars.

Announcing a new arrival

Here is my new baby! We have been spending a lot of time together, as you can imagine. She was on sale and I could not resist. My trusty Pfaff which I bought about ten years ago has not been very cooperative lately. My new machine is a Janome Memory Craft and it is a dream come true! I paid about what I paid for my Pfaff way back when. Sewing machines sure have improved since those days. I have loved my Pfaff, but well...I guess I was ready to move on.
See the buttons to the right of the tension dial? One button is for the needle down position. One button is a tie-off stitch, it sort of stitches in place for a few stitches at the end of a seam. And the best button of all? Snip snip scissors! I probably have saved a spool of thread already.

A separate table fits around the bed of the machine and has adjustable legs. I have been sewing on my Lone Star quilt today. I started chain sewing, but I don't really like that, so I am sewing all the diamonds in one row. I sew all the same row eight times for the eight points of the star. I will post a picture of that tomorrow if I have time. My kids are home from college for the weekend. Happy Easter!

Rainbow

On Saturday I drove all over creation to find 1930s fabrics. I really only found one store that carried yardage. I went to Mystic Maine Quilts in Gardiner in the morning and ended up there again mid-afternoon.

I washed, starched, and ironed my fabrics Saturday night and finished cutting them this afternoon. Here are some of the cut diamonds on my design wall. It's a rainbow!
